It has already been a year since I fully embarked on the creation of my new project: Mysterious Faeries.

Voilà 1 an que je me suis lancé dans la construction de mon nouveau livre Mysterious Faeries !

In truth, it is the culmination of more than a decade of research and the creation of new artworks. Last July, I made an important decision: to stop taking on freelance contracts in order to dedicate myself entirely to this book… or rather, to this series of books.

Some of you may remember the very first glimpse I shared in a post last February. Since then, the project has evolved considerably. The texts are now taking shape, the layout is progressing, and yesterday we reached a symbolic milestone: the design of the cover. It truly sets the visual identity of the project, and it will also be the foundation for the volumes to come, ensuring a cohesive collection.

Creating a book is never an easy path. When self-publishing, one must be victim, culprit, judge, and executioner all at once: making decisions, accepting them, and sometimes letting go of ideas. Over the past weeks, the hardest step was to abandon the dream of one single large anthology. Printing costs would have been too high, shipping too expensive, and the timeline far too long. And if the project is to be sustainable, it needs to remain viable.

Dividing Mysterious Faeries into several, slimmer volumes became the only reasonable path forward. And in the end, it was the right choice: each book will have its own atmosphere, its own creatures, and its own unique spirit.

Je rassemble du materiel depuis plus d’une décennie en créant de nouvelles images et en juillet dernier, j’ai stoppé net les contrats freelance pour me concentré sur le nouveau projet de livre, ou plus précisément “de livreS”.

Vous aviez pu voir un un petit aperçu du livre sur ce post de février et depuis ça a bien changé et j’ai bien avancé! Aujourd’hui on avance donc tranquillement sur les textes et sur la maquette.

Hier on a passé un milestone : on a vraiment un beau projet de couverture et mine de rien, ça concrétise vraiment le livre et les livres qui suivront car on gardera la même mouture.

Tout n’est pas rose dans la création d’un livre, il faut faire des choix et lorsqu’on s’auto-édite, il faut être victime, coupable, juge et bourreau : il faut faire des choix et s’y tenir même si ça fait mal. Ces dernières semaines, l’étape difficile, c’était de me dire que que je n’aurais pas mon GROS livre, mon anthologie, mais qu’il faudrait le diviser.

Cela couterait trop cher à imprimer, trop cher à envoyer et surtout trop long à terminer et si on veut pouvoir vivre il faut des choses à vendre et si je mets 10 ans à terminer ce GROS livre, ce n’est pas viable. Des faits bien terre à terre mais non négligeables. J’ai mis de côté mon caprice et au final c’était la bonne chose à faire car chaque volume aura son ambiance, ses spécificités et ses créatures.
